| Oriental art gallery "Sussi" |
I think it's very hard to pass by our gallery and not to notice
it. Riga shops' windows now are very diverse but, nevertheless,
ours are not like others. Displayed huge Moroccan majolika jugs
with silver inlay, mysterious sombre masks of mages and
never-fading candle-light in the evening...
And inside you discover oreintal magic. It is in household articles, ornaments, in slightly fuddling odours of volatile oils, in rhythms of new age music... Tastefully selected details create the whole space where the image of the Orient lives. Though the hall of the gallery is quite small here you can feel live contact with every item - you can touch it, you can learn its story. Those who seek unusual gifts can find a lot of interesting things here. Today in the gallery displays are Moroccan and Kenian ornaments, miniature sculpture from China and Nepal, express-exhibitions af Indonesian batique and furniture made of rattan (Indonesian liana), Indian carpets. So far the gallery of this exotic type is the only one in the Baltics - to a certain degree it is a challenge to standards, an effort to broaden ethnic borders and aesthetic norms. And because "Sussi" gallery in a relatively short term became known among Riga residents and guests - we have succeded! |
