AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands; April 21 1997:
EUnet International today
announced plans to offer fax-over-the-Internet services to its
customers as of June 1, 1997. Called EUnetFax, the service will be
available to those companies and individuals relying on a combination
of fax, personal computers and email, and is expected to slash as much
as 50% from a user's international fax bill. The service is available
to EUnet International customers and non-customers alike.
EUnetFax responds to the needs of companies and individuals in Europe
who would like to cut the costs of international faxing by a
significant amount. Unlike most European PTTs, EUnetFax bills its
customers by the second, instead of for "ticks" of time. This, coupled
with the fact that a fax is being routed over the Internet, represents
a huge potential savings, especially for large-volume prime-time
users.
Soft- and hardware for EUnetFax is provided by ArelNet, a leading
international technology provider for ISP messaging platforms,
including fax-over-the-Internet. ArelNet's flagship product, i-Fax,
enables the transmission of large volume fax messages for both single
and multiple destinations.
According to EUnet International Product Manager, Erik Evrard,
"Internet technology continues to evolve, to the point where we can now
use it to enhance the features and benefits of fax transmissions. For
us, this creates an attractive new market. For 1996, for example, the
worldwide market for local, long-distance, and international fax
transmissions was estimated at ECU 80 billion. By integrating fax and
Internet technologies, we believe EUnetFax provides new solutions and
new levels of cost-effectiveness for traditional applications."
EUnetFax will consist of three service models: EUnetFax Direct, a
full-featured fax package that allows you to fax over the Internet
directly from a PC; EUnetFax Email, which allows a user to send email
to a fax machine; and EUnetFax Corporate Server, which gives large
volume users the opportunity to install their own fax server on their
premises.
EUnetFax Corporate Server is expected to be a particularly attractive
option to large volume users with a permanent Internet address who want
to continue using their existing fax machines. By linking a fax server
to their fax machines and their Internet connection, EUnetFax can cut
the costs of international faxing substantially.
There will be two tariff categories: Pro, a low monthly subscription
fee with a higher per-second rate for occasional users, and Business, a
higher monthly subscription fee and low per-second rate for corporate
users.
EUnetFax will be sold by all EUnet International companies throughout
Europe. Subscriptions can also be obtained from anywhere in the world
by means of a credit card and the World Wide Web:
