AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands; July 16 1997:
EUnet International today
announced that Relcom JSC has now made the EUnetTraveller service, EUnet's
mobile access full Internet connectivity service, available in Moscow and
St Petersburg This brings the total number of PoPs for EUnetTraveller to
418 worldwide. EUnet International is Europe's largest full-service
commercial Internet provider. Relcom is a leading provider of Internet
services in Russia and the countries of the former Soviet Union, and has
been an EUnet International Strategic partner since 1990.
PoPs for EUnetTraveller customers in the Moscow and St Petersburg area mean
that for those travelling to Russia, there is now a more reliable and more
cost-effective way to communicate abroad. According to EUnet International
product manager, Erik Evrard, "Rather than having to depend exclusively on
the quality of international telephone lines from Russia to reach a home
provider, with an EUnetTraveller connection, international customers
working or visiting Moscow now have a more reliable option. With
EUnetTraveller, customers are never more than a local phone call away from
a connection."
EUnetTraveller, the first mobile access Internet service, was launched in
February 1996. It filled a need among business travellers who need to
access the full range of Internet services wherever they travel in Europe.
The only requirements for EUnetTraveller are a portable computer, a modem,
and access to a telephone line. Since the service was launched, the number
of PoPs has been growing steadily, with new locations being announced every
month.
Although EUnetTraveller PoPs for Russia are currently in Moscow and St
Petersburg, plans are underway to make Relcom's extensive network of PoPs ,
which reach such towns as Ekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, Syktyvkar
and even Vladivostok, available in the near future.
Relcom
Founded in 1990, Relcom initially served to link those developing and using
the computer system of the Russian Scientific Centre "Kurchatov Institute"
and other major scientific organizations. In that same year, Relcom became
part of the EUnet International network. Access to the EUnet/Relcom
network
in Russia and the countries of the former Soviet Union is offered by 150
organizations providing network services via regional Relcom nodes.
Relcom's aim is to continue to broaden and improve its range of Internet
services in Russia, both qualitatively and quantitatively.
EUnet
Established in 1982, and the first European provider of services for
business use, EUnet was instrumental in creating Europe's Internet
