The biggest repository of cultural values of Latvian people. Founded in 1869. Placed in Riga Castle built in 1330 as a residence for Magister of the Livonian Order. Displays on ancient history of Latvia (9000 B.C. - XII cent).

The only military history museum in Latvia. Founded in 1916 as a museum of Latvian riflemen. Wound up in 1941, restored in 1990. Permanent display on Latvian riflemen in the World War I, fights for liberation, Latvian army and navy in the period of 1920-40. Regular exhibitions on various topics of military history. 194 units in the museum's reserve.

The museum was founded in 1924 and now is one of the oldest open air museums in Europe. Old houses, household articles of peasants, fishermen and craftsmen have been brought there from all regions of Latvia. There are even tavern, mill and churches. In the exhibition hall you can find exhibitions of applied art. In summer concerts of folk and organ music and services in the church are held in the museum. As it was earlier, smiths, potters, bee-keepers work in the museum. 9000 items in the museum's reserve.

The oldest museum in the Baltics (founded in 1773). Contains richest collections on archaeology, numismatics, photographs, applied art and household articles. The display tells you about history of Riga from the ancient times up to the XVIII century and history of navigation from the X century up to present days. Thematical exhibitons based on the museum's reserve tell about the history of Riga as well. The museum is located in the ensemble of Riga Dome.

Services on Sundays at noon, concerts on Wednesdays and Fridays at 19.00. Riga Dome is an outstanding sample of medieval architecture in the Baltics. Its construction started in the XIII century. Thanks to Roman-Gothic architecture, masterfully made wooden carvings, luxurious stained-glass windows and sound of worldly known organ this building is specially appreciated by tourists. Dome Church is a cathedral of archbishop of Latvian Evangelical-Lutheran church and a church of parish.

Located in a 18th - 19th century merchant's dwelling house in Old Town Riga, this museum traces the development of photography in Latvia from 1839 until 1941. Visitors are invited to view unique photographs from the 1920's and 1930's as well as contemporary photography exhibits in the gallery. The Museum of Photography opened its doors in 1993.

Founded in 1869. From 1905 it has been staying in the building designed specially for the museum by architect V.Neimanis. The museum keeps and exhibits collections of artistic works reflecting history of Latvian and Russian art up to 1945. Among painters - V.Purvitis, J.Rozentals, N.Rerih, I.Aivazovsky. 14,000 units in the museum's reserve.

The museum is the biggest in Latvia repository of foreign art works. Display represents history of ancient art of Egypt, Greece, Rome, Middle East and India. There are works of art of West-European countries from the XV century up to nowadays (collection of paintings, drawings and applied art works of Holland, XVII century; Germany, XVI-XIX; Belgium, first half of the XX century). The history of the museum started in 1920.

In the building of arsenal built in the XIX century in the style of classicism, an exhibition hall was opened in 1988 where exhibitions of Latvian and foreign art are held. The museum's reserve (12.5 thousand units) contains art collections, paintings, drawings, sculptures by Latvian masters and artists who emigrated after 1945.

The museum is located in the oldest stone building of Riga former St. George's Church (beginning of the XIII century). The display reflects development of Latvian professional applied art from the end of the XIX century up to the 80's of the XX century. In the exhibition hall there are works by both Latvian and foreign artists (decorative applied art, design etc.). The museum was founded in 1989; 7,000 units in the reserve.

"Dauderi" is a museum of one collection based on the gift of Gaidis Graudinsh - Latvian man who lives now in Germany. The display contains various items of Latvian culture. The museum was opened in 1990. Exhibition "The year of Gaidis Graudinsh". Display has been replenished by sport medals.

Documentation of history of national literature started in 1925. Collections on the history of theatre, music and painting formed centralized reserve containing 500,000 units. The are 9 affiliates of the museum, mainly memorial museums. In Riga Castle you can see a display on Latvian literature from the very roots up to 1940. Displays on current events in literature.

The museum was founded in 1976. It is located in the house of Eduard Smilgis (1886-1966), "Daile" theatre producer. Here you can see his study, hall and stage. Permanent exhibition is dedicated to the theatre's history. The museum's events and exhibition hall will tell you about past and present of the theatre.

Founded in 1951, but the main part of its collection had been formed in 1843. The museum has 6 departments on geology, botany, zoology, entomology, anthropology and nature protection. 150,000 units in the museum's reserve.

One of the largest museums of medicine in the world. Main part of the collection was built by Paul Stradinsh, famous Latvian doctor, academician who had been collecting these unique materials on medicine for more than 30 years and then presented them to the city.

The biggest museum of that kind in the Eastern Europe. Large collection of old cars, motor bikes and bicycles. Some real rarities - cars once owned by Stalin, Brezhnev, Maksim Gorky.

The museum was set up in 1978 on the premises of a former fire-station, built in 1912 and designed in the Art Nouveau style by the architect R.Schmaeling. The collections and displays concentrate upon the history of fire fighting in Latvia from the second half of the 19th century until the present time. Fire-fighting equipment, uniforms, flags, photographs and documents are on view. Repositories contain 30 000 items.
