According to the plan of Latvian Telephone Company "Lattelekom", Latvia is the first post soviet country to be completely transferred from the analogue to digital telephone system.
The work is underway and the results are may be not far away but at present time telephone system in Latvia is in some slight disorder because a part
of the telephone subscribers has been already transferred to digital system while another part continues to use the analogue system.
in practical use of telephone network this causes certain inconveniences. In order to avoid these inconveniences be sure to use practical tips:
Local calls
- from digital phone to digital phone - add 7 to a six digits subscriber's number
- from digital phone to analogue phone - add 2 to a six digits subscriber's number
- from analogue phone to digital phone - dial 1, wait for a signal and then dial 7 and asix digits subscriber's number
- from analogue phone to analogue phone - simply dial a six digits subscriber's number
Local calls to mobile phones
- from digital phone to mobile phone - dial 9 and the mobile number
- from analogue phone to mobile phone - dial 1, wait for a signal, dial 9 and the mobile number
International calls
- from digital phone - dial 00, access code of the country and subscriber's number
- from analogue phone - dial 8, wait for a signal and then dial access code of the country and subscriber's number

Almost all payphones accept only Lattelekom phonecards.
They cost 2, 5, 10 Ls and can be bought in kiosks, selected stores, post and Lattelekom offices.
Also there are payphones that accept coins. You can find them at the hotels and major stores.
All public phones in Riga are digital. |
